How This Is Calculated
A lot of "age in years" tools quietly divide total days by 365.25 and round — which drifts by a day or two around leap years and gives an age that doesn't match a real calendar. This calculator does it the way you'd count on a calendar: it finds the number of full years, then full months within the current year, then the remaining days — using the actual number of days in each month involved, including February in leap years.
That also means the year, month and day figures always add back up exactly: your date of birth plus the years, months and days shown lands precisely on the "as of" date, every time, in every year length and every month length.
Leap day birthdays
If you were born on February 29th, your birthday only exists on the calendar once every four years. In the years between, this calculator treats February 28th as your birthday for the purpose of the "next birthday" countdown — the most common convention, though some people celebrate on March 1st instead. Either way, your exact age in years, months and days is unaffected — that part is always calculated precisely, leap year or not.
Why Two Age Calculators Can Disagree by a Day
If this tool and another one give you a result a day apart, it's almost always one of two things. Some calculators measure elapsed time from the exact moment of birth, including the hour — since we only ask for a date, we count in full calendar days, which is how most people actually think about their age. The other common cause is timezones: a date typed as "today" is your local date, and a tool running on a server in a different timezone can be a few hours ahead or behind at the moment you load the page, occasionally landing on a different calendar date entirely near midnight.
Why Round-Number Days Matter
There's nothing mathematically special about your 10,000th day alive — but it's a genuinely nice excuse to notice how much time has actually passed, in a way "you're 27" doesn't quite capture. 10,000 days is roughly 27 years and 4 months; 20,000 days is close to 54 years and 9 months. The "Next milestone" card above tells you exactly which round-thousand day you're heading toward next, and the date it falls on.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this age calculator?
It's exact to the calendar day. The year/month/day breakdown is calculated using real month lengths and leap years rather than a fixed average, and the total days, weeks and months figures are derived from that same exact day count — not rounded separately.
Why does my age in "total months" not match years × 12?
It does, once you include the partial month. "Total months" counts only completed months, so if you're 5 years and 3 months old, total months is 63 (5×12+3) — the remaining days aren't a full month yet, which is exactly what the day count next to it captures.
What happens if I was born on February 29th?
Your exact age is still calculated precisely in every year. For the "next birthday" countdown specifically, February 28th is used as the observed date in non-leap years, which is the most widely used convention — see "Leap day birthdays" above.
Can I calculate someone else's age, or an age in the past?
Yes. Enter any date of birth, and switch "Calculate age as of" to a specific date to find an age on any past or future date — useful for eligibility checks, historical questions, or planning ahead.
Is the zodiac sign based on my exact birth time?
No — it uses the standard tropical zodiac date ranges based on your date of birth alone. If you were born within a day or two of a sign boundary, the precise cutoff can technically depend on birth time and year, so treat a boundary-date result as close but not certified.
Does this store my date of birth anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your date of birth and any date you enter are never transmitted, logged or stored.
